Who We're Following

Another Monkees mashup: “For Pete’s Sake” vs. “Don’Cha” by the Pussycat Dolls.

Not sure how we feel about the song, but the video makes it absolutely hilarious and perfect…

Micky Dolenz performing “Daydream Believer” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You” at Epcot’s Flower Power show in Florida on May 18, 2012.

Warning: Do not watch if you are in any way menstrual or prone to weepiness, as you will be left curled in a sobbing ball by Micky’s little speech at the beginning.

Hey, Tumblr!

What do you get when you take a ukulele, a songwriter’s heart, and a little bit of bunny magic? Lynsey Moon. Classically trained in piano, Lynsey is a singer, ukuleleist, and songwriter, pulling influence from various genres. She also sings and plays percussion with Loose Salute, whose catalog highlights the works of Michael Nesmith and other Americana greats.

In addition, Lynsey moonlights as a DJ in Michael Nesmith’s virtual world, Videoranch3D. Lynsey will soon be releasing her first collection of songs, and looks at this as the first step in an incredible journey still to be written.

So now that you’ve read about the fantastic Lynsey Moon, why don’t you go ahead and ‘like’ her Facebook page? You’ll be glad thatcha did! :D

In honor of Robert Moog’s 78th birthday, I give you Micky and his Moog. Music history says that Micky purchased one of the first Moog synthesizers ever to be sold. Cue “Daily Nightly,” please, and do a little Moog interacting on your friendly neighborhood Google home page!

On this day in 1967, the Monkees’ third album Headquarters was released.

This was the first Monkees album where they played all most of their own instruments and had creative control. It went to #1 for one week and eventually went double platinum.

Monkees Challenge -Day 24: Favorite Lyrics

In a long and involved conversation with myself,
I saw precious things come into view,
When I poured through the files taken off my mental shelf,
I dusted off some memories of you.

Then I thought about the time when our affair was green,
How the phoenix of our love first flapped its silken wings,
All the urgency and passion of each new day as it happened,
And how it all mellowed as it grew.

I remembered the times that our laughter would explode
And how you would turn to hide your smile,
Then the hours of silence while the perfumed candle glowed,
And both our thoughts meandered on for miles.

I remembered the time I said I really had to go,
I remembered the tears that filled your eyes,
Then I touched your hand and told you that it really was a lie,
And though you never knew it, dear, I cried.

It’s amazing how time can so softly change your ways
And make you look at things that can’t be seen,
How the years that roll by can start you listening,
Not just to what they say, but what they mean.

So forgive me, my dear, if I seem preoccupied,
If the razor edge of youth-filled love is gone,
But, we’re both a little older, our relationship has grown,
Not just in how it’s shaped, but how it’s shown.

So forgive me, my dear, if I seem preoccupied,
If the razor edge of youth-filled love is gone,
But, we’re both a little older, our relationship has grown,
Not just in how it’s shaped, but how it’s shown.

New music nerd-y FB status update from Nez, May 21, 2012.

In regard to Nez’s new song:

1. Him posting that on the day Donna Summer passed away = SO NOT A COINCIDENCE.

2. Our certainty of whether or not Nez still dresses up in the Nudie suit and lowers a mirrorball and boogies with his dog Dale every Saturday night has gone up from 65% to 96.7%.

3. We really, really, really love this man. His version of dance music is delightfully stuck in 1978, but it makes him all the more endearing.

4. Photographic and/or video evidence of Nez dancing is officially the new holy grail of Monkeedom (though photographic evidence of Mike and Peter naked together in the ’60s is still a solid #2).

5. This gif sums up all of our feels:
