Ghost Ghost

Who We're Following

An interesting status update from Christian Nesmith yesterday, in regard to fandom and Monkees fans. It’s safe to say that all of us have witnessed the zealotry of certain fans, in one form or another. To our minds, it’s not enthusiastic fans—people who are over-the-top but genuine—that are the problem. Some folks might find that level of enthusiasm distasteful or want to distance themselves from it, but ultimately those are not the fans who are harmful.
Rather, it’s the people who are more fans of BEING a fan, than of the artist or band they’re supposed to be a fan of, that are the problem. Because what often happens is these fans end up harming the fandom by policing other fans and decreeing that there is only one way to be a “true fan.”
But enough from us: What do you guys think? Is there a point where Monkee fan zealotry goes too far and fans ends up smothering others with their “freak flags”? Tell us your thoughts!
